Mak Grgic

Described as a “gifted young guitarist” by The New York Times and “a guitarist to keep an eye on” by The Washington Post, three-time Grammy®-nominated artist Mak Grgić [GER-gich] is a leading voice of a new generation in classical and contemporary music. His expansive repertoire, spanning the ethnic music of the Balkans to avant-garde and microtonal works, showcases his versatility as both a soloist and collaborator.

Mak has premiered and commissioned numerous pieces, working with renowned composers such as Michael Gordon, Michael Abels, Julia Adolphe, and Nina Senk. Upcoming projects include new works by Vito Zuraj, Austin Wintory and Christopher Tin.

With over 85 performances annually, Mak collaborates with prestigious ensembles and artists, including the JACK Quartet, Curtis Stewart, Martin Chalifour, Chee Yun, and Augustin Hadelich. He is also a founding member of the “FretX Duo” and the Flamenco-inspired “Duo Deloro.” His recordings, such as the Grammy-nominated Mak|Bach and Balkanisms, highlight his innovative approach to the guitar.

Highlights of the 24/25 season include appearances with the Pacific Symphony, Charleston Symphony, Boise Philharmonic, Sedona Symphony and the East Coast premiere of “Borders,” by Michael Abels with the American Composers Orchestra in Zankel Hall at Carnegie Hall.

Mak is also an educator and entrepreneur, involved in several music festivals and leading initiatives like the Virtual Guitar Orchestra, and is developing an educational game app called Notey, to teach guitar to young people. Mak holds a professorship at the University of South Carolina.

Coshel Caudill

Coshel Caudill is in his senior year at The Ohio State University where he is pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Vocal Music Education. During his time at Ohio State, Mr. Caudill has received numerous accolades and awards for academic and choral excellence. At Ohio state, he served as section leader of the Ohio State University Men’s Glee Club, as well as a rehearsal assistant in Chorale. He has studied with Dr. Robert Ward, Dr. Colin Knoth, and Jordan Saul.

Mr. Caudill student teaches at Hilliard Darby high school, where he assists with day-to-day operations and classes. He currently serves as Choir Director at Hilliard United Methodist Church. In addition, he is a Section Leader and regular soloist with the New Albany Symphony Chorus. He has toured domestically and internationally as a chorister and as a soloist, most recently at Lincoln Center in New York City, Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic

Tori Cravens

Tori Cravens, soprano, is a lifelong singer and musician. Coming from an immensely musical family, her father composed an original song the day she was born; a fitting entrance into the world. As a founding member of the New Albany Symphony Chorus, Tori has performed such great works as Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Faure’s Requiem, Mahler’s Second Symphony, Forrest’s Requiem for the Living, and Handel’s Messiah in its entirety. Tori has also performed multiple solos and small ensembles as a part of this group, including Copland’s Old American Songs and the debut of Dr. Michael Martin’s original piece, My Lord Comes. She’s had the privilege of touring Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic to perform classical works in venues like St. Steven’s Cathedral in Vienna. Tori is also a member of the Choral Schola at New Albany United Methodist church, where she performs a variety of sacred music on a weekly basis.

Prior to her current choral work, Tori was a vocal student under Paula Trybus for seven years, where she built her repertoire. She was a member and co-president of an acapella club at The Ohio State University, where she was accepted into the School of Music for flute performance.

Tori made her vocal debut at the age of seven when she joined the children’s choir at her church. She went on to sing with other choirs in the church over the following fifteen years, including the Voces Resurrectionum a capella choir. When she isn’t singing, Tori is a developer for an indie video game where she crafts narratives brimming with suspense and emotion.

Dianna Kerze

2025 Student Concerto Winner, Junior Division

Dianna Kerze is 11 years old, she started playing piano at the age of four, learning from her mother. Currently Dianna is a student of professor Irina Nikolaeva. Dianna has participated in a few piano competitions and festivals. Dianna is a first prize winner at the Aurora Young Artist Competition 2024 and OhioMTA Buckeye District Competition 2024. She also got an honorable mention in the OhioMTA Buckeye State Competition 2024 and participated in the Lang Lang 101 Pianists concert. Over the past summer Dianna had performed series of solo piano recitals in various Cleveland area venues as part of Pianos In The City project that was organized as a way to commemorate the Cleveland International Piano Competition’s 50th anniversary.

Apart from music Dianna enjoys cooking with her sister and playing with her younger brother. She loves reading, ballet, art and decorating.

Michael Lawrence Smith

2025 Student Concerto Winner, Senior Division

American-born violinist Michael Lawrence Smith is a rising and multifaceted classical musician. He has toured internationally as soloist and served as concertmaster and featured soloist for the Denver Young Artists Orchestra, Denver School of the Arts Advanced Orchestra, and Greater Boulder Youth Orchestra as well as Associate Concertmaster of the Colorado Symphony for their annual side-by-side concert. Professionally, Smith currently performs as Associate Concertmaster of the Longmont Symphony Orchestra and as a member of the Boulder Bach Festival’s (BBF) CORE Ensemble following his residency as a Fellowship artist with the ensemble for the past two seasons. During his time as Fellow, Smith performed alongside violinist Vadim Gluzman and participated in the BBF’s first ever recorded CD which was released by the Multi-GRAMMY® Award-winning label Sono Luminus to great critical acclaim.

In 2023, Smith was invited to participate in the Harpa International Music Academy in Reykjavik, Iceland. He also attended the Aspen Music Festival and School in 2022 as a Fellowship student in the studios of Robert Chen and Naoko Tanaka. Other festival appearances include the Meadowmount School of Music, Vilacello String and Piano Festival, and Rocky Ridge Music Center Young Artist Programs. An avid chamber musician, he feels honored to have learned from members of the Takács, Cavani, Miró, Cleveland, Miami, and Danish String Quartets as well as Quatour Modigliani and Eighth Blackbird. He has coached and performed in masterclasses with Gil Shaham, Midori Goto, Emanuel Ax, Stephen Waarts, James Dunham, Timothy Chooi, Stephanie Jeong, Vadim Gluzman, Si-Yan Darren Li, Francesca dePasquale, and Károly Schranz among others.

He is currently completing his undergraduate degree at Oberlin College and Conservatory under Sigurbjörn Bernharðsson. He previously studied with Edward Dusinberre and Harumi Rhodes of the Takács Quartet and Paul Kantor at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music.

He plays a 2017 Eduard Miller violin alongside a W.E. Hill & Sons bow.

Ariane Sletner

Born in Oakland, California, violinist Ariane Sletner enjoys an active career with more than sixty appearances as soloist with orchestra throughout the US, Central and South America and Europe. Concerto performances include her debut with the Oakland Symphony and the Oakland Symphony Youth Orchestra under Kent Nagano, the Orquesta Sinfonica Nacional de Colombia under Luis O. Biava, the Orquesta Nacional de Guatemala under Luis G. Biava and orchestras in the San Francisco Bay Area, Columbus, Oberlin, Mt. Vernon and Philadelphia, among others. Last summer with NASO, she performed the Brahms Double and, on tour, Mozart in Prague, Herzogenaurach and in Stephansdom in Vienna. A participant in national and international competitions, she was chosen for pre-selection and played at the Jacques Thibaud Competition in Paris and was invited as a contestant to the International Tchaikovsky Competition. Her chamber music and solo work have been broadcast on NPR, KDFC San Francisco and WOSU Columbus. Ariane played with the High Street Four String Quartet for 10 years and is a member of the Biava-Uribe Trio and the Camarata Trio with pianists Blanca Uribe and Suzanne Newcomb and cellist Luis Biava with both trios performing the Beethoven Triple Concerto. Camarata has completed the Mozart and Beethoven piano trio cycles and played many contemporary trios, including works by Elliott Carter, Jennifer Higdon, Lera Auerbach, Arvo Pärt and Augusta Read Thomas. At twenty-two, she played with the San Francisco Opera Orchestra and was principal second of their national touring orchestra, Western Opera Theater. She was a member of the Grand Teton Music Festival Orchestra, the Cabrillo Festival of Contemporary Music and played with the Columbus Symphony for more than twenty years. She taught and performed with principal players of the New York Philharmonic and the Met Orchestra and with pianist Jeremy Denk in artist faculty chamber concerts at Musicorda in Massachusetts and the Festival Youth Orchestra of the Americas (FOSJA) in Puerto Rico. Recent and upcoming concerts include performances completing the Brahms and Schubert trio cycles with Camarata, the Beethoven Violin Concerto with the Knox County Symphony, the Sibelius Concerto with the Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra and the South American premiere of Carillon Sky by Augusta Read Thomas and the Iberacademy Orchestra in Medellin, Colombia. Ariane currently serves as concertmaster of the New Albany Symphony, Opera Libera in Philadelphia and the Camarata Chamber Orchestra and teaches at Kenyon College. Ms. Sletner earned performance degrees from Oberlin Conservatory and the Cleveland Institute of Music. Her teachers include Almita Vamos, David Cerone, Kay Stern, Zvi Zeitlin, Stephen Clapp, Eugenia Fichtenova and Lenore Stephens.

Suzanne Newcomb

Suzanne Newcomb is an active solo and collaborative artist who has performed as soloist or on stage with nearly every orchestra in the region. In 2023 alone, Suzanne performed concerti by Mozart, Rachmaninoff, and Florence Price. An associate musician at the CSO, she also appears regularly in recitals with Columbus’ professional musicians. In addition to frequent Camarata Trio performances with Ariane Sletner and Luis Biava, Suzanne has performed in VIVO chamber music concerts and solo recitals at the Columbus Museum of Art.

Dr. Newcomb received her MM and DMA degrees in piano performance from The Peabody Conservatory of Johns Hopkins University, studying piano under Leon Fleisher. She completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.

Suzanne has been teaching piano full-time for many years. She stays involved in her continuing education and professional associations. She has presented lectures to national audiences at MTNA Conferences. Suzanne has presented many sessions on various pedagogical topics for OhioMTA and also gave a lecture-recital on Women Composers at the NKU Piano Pedagogy seminar.
She has served terms as president at both the district and state levels of MTNA. In March 2023, she was honored in Reno, NV, as an MTNA Foundation Fellow, a lifetime achievement award. She frequently adjudicates for statewide piano events such as Buckeye, CMTA, the CSO Young Musicians, and MTNA competitions.

Dr. Newcomb is a senior lecturer and staff pianist at Otterbein University. She has a successful home studio in Upper Arlington of about eighteen enthusiastic pre-college students.

Miloš Karadaglić

MILOŠ is one of the world’s most celebrated classical guitarists. His career began its meteoric rise in 2011, with the release of his international best-selling Deutsche Grammophon debut album ‘Mediterraneo’. Since then, he has earned legions of fans, awards, and acclaim around the world through his extensive touring, six chart topping recordings and television appearances.

Now exclusive to SONY Classical, MILOŠ is committed to expanding the repertoire for the classical guitar. His new album, simply entitled ‘Baroque’ comes out in October 2023 and presents a carefully curated selection of baroque works especially transcribed and arranged for the guitar, both solo and in collaboration with Jonathan Cohen and his ensemble Arcangelo. Equally passionate about new music, MILOŠ’ latest release ‘The Moon and the Forest’ features two world premiere concerti, by Howard Shore and Joby Talbot.

Over the past decade, the instrument’s popularity has exploded thanks to MILOŠ’ pioneering approach. Aspiring guitarists can even learn from him through Schott’s ‘Play Guitar with Miloš’ series. In 2016 BBC Music Magazine included him in their list of ‘Six of the Best Classical Guitarists of the past century’.

MILOŠ has appeared as a soloist with some of the world’s greatest orchestras: London and LA Philharmonics, Atlanta Symphony, Philadelphia Orchestra, Chicago Symphony, Cleveland Orchestra, Orquesta Nacional de España, Santa Cecilia Rome and NHK Tokyo. His first sold-out solo recital in the round of the Royal Albert Hall was lauded by the critics and caused worldwide sensation. He returned to the hall post-pandemic in June 2022 to a full capacity audience.

Other recent and forthcoming highlights include debuts with the Frankfurt Radio Symphony and Alain Altinoglu for the annual Europe Open Air concert, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France,  Korean National Symphony; return performances with the Atlanta and Detroit Symphonies, Orchestre Métropolitain in Montreal, Hallé Orchestra, Graz and London Philharmonics; extensive tours across the UK, US and Australia, as well as recitals in Munich, London, Hong Kong and the Verbier, Caramoor, Gstaad and Schleswig Holstein Music Festivals.

A passionate advocate for music education, MILOŠ is an active patron of numerous charities supporting young musicians in the UK and abroad. He recently launched the “Miloš Karadaglić Foundation” – based in Porto Montenegro, this philanthropic organisation aims to act as a regional hub of influence by empowering artistic excellence though various educational opportunities, partnerships and close mentorship.

Born in Montenegro in 1983, MILOŠ moved to London to study at the Royal Academy of Music at the age of 17. He continues to live and work in London, while keeping close ties to his homeland. He performs on a 2017 Greg Smallman guitar.

Lisa Vroman

From Broadway to Classics, on stage and in concert, Lisa Vroman has established herself as one of America’s most versatile voices. She has been regarded as a “musical and theatrical marvel” by the San Francisco Chronicle, as well as “one of American Musical Theater’s most beautiful voices” by acclaimed Broadway producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh.

Lisa starred for over eight years on Broadway, in San Francisco and in Los Angeles as Christine Daaé in The Phantom of the Opera. Ms. Vroman starred as Rosabella in The Most Happy Fella, making her New York City Opera debut with Paul Sorvino playing the title role. She starred as Lili Vanessi in Kiss Me Kate with Glimmerglass Opera and the MUNY Theater of St. Louis, Anna Leonowens in The King and I with Lyric Opera of Virginia, and played Marian Paroo in The Music Man with Shirley Jones (Mrs. Paroo) and Patrick Cassidy (Harold Hill) at The Bushnell Theatre in Hartford, CT. Lisa sang the role of Birdie in Regina with Utah Opera, conducted by Keith Lockhart, made her New Jersey Opera debut as Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus (directed by Ira Siff), and premiered and recorded two Comic Operas by composers John
Musto (Bastianello) and William Bolcom (Lucrezia) with the New York Festival of Song.

Her many performances have included a multi-city concert tour in China, concerts of Cole Porter’s 1928 La Revue des Ambassadeurs with L’Opera de Rennes in France, and playing the role of Maria Callas in Terence McNally’s award winning play, Master Class.

Lisa’s Broadway debut was in Aspects of Love. She was the first to play both Fantine and Cosette in Les Miserables. For PBS she was featured with Colm Wilkinson and Michael Ball in Cameron Mackintosh’s Hey, Mr. Producer! at a Royal Gala at the Lyceum Theatre in London. She sang the role of Johanna in the San Francisco Symphony’s Emmy Award winning PBS production of Sweeney Todd in Concert, with Patti LuPone and George Hearn. Both are available on DVD. Lisa starred as Laurey in Oklahoma, filmed live in concert for the BBC Proms Festival at Royal Albert Hall in London, played Mary Turner in Gershwin’s Of Thee I Sing/Let ’em Eat Cake in concert with Michael Tilson Thomas conducting the San Francisco Symphony and Chorus, and played Lucy Brown in Threepenny Opera at the American Conservatory
Theatre in San Francisco with Bebe Neuwirth, Nancy Dussault, and Anika Noni Rose. Other roles have included Laurie in The Tender Land, Maria in The Sound of Music, Josephine in HMS Pinafore, Yum-Yum in The Mikado, and Anna I in The Seven Deadly Sins. She has sung Maria inWest Side Story, Guenevere in Camelot, Carrie Pipperidge in Carousel, Eliza Doolittle in My Fair Lady, and Amalia Balash in She Loves Me, as well as many other well-known musical roles.

Lisa is a George London Competition Grant recipient and a 1999 Minerva Award recipient from the State University of New York at Potsdam. She received an Undergraduate degree in Music Education from the Crane School of Music, SUNY Potsdam, a Masters degree in Fine Arts, Opera Performance from Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Music from SUNY Potsdam. Ms. Vroman has become an active mentor and sought-after clinician with many colleges and universities across the country and around the world. She has acted as a judge in both the Lotte Lenya Competition for the Kurt Weill Foundation and UCLA’s Walter Jurmann Competition. In the fall of 2019 Lisa joined the voice faculty of AMDA Los Angeles as part their Bachelor of Fine Arts program.

With a repertoire that ranges from Stravinsky to Weill to Broadway, Lisa is a frequent guest soloist with theater and opera companies, and orchestras including San Francisco, Philadelphia, Chicago, Atlanta, the National, Malaysia, Seattle, Hong Kong, Cleveland, Nashville, Pacific, Utah, Dallas, the Boston Pops with Keith Lockhart, the New York Pops at Carnegie Hall, and the Philly Pops with Peter Nero. She made her debut at The Hollywood Bowl in Disney’s 75th celebration, singing and dancing with legend Dick Van Dyke in a medley from Mary Poppins. Lisa has sung in concert with composer Stephen Schwartz, organist David Higgs, and the Empire Brass Quintet. Her solo CD, Broadway Classic, features Metropolitan Opera mezzo-soprano Stephanie Blythe and 47 of San Francisco’s finest orchestral players. Lisa had the honor of singing at the Profiles in Courage Award dinner in Boston at the JFK Library, as a guest of the Kennedy family. She has also sung on separate occasions for Queen Elizabeth, former presidents Gerald Ford, George H.W. Bush, and Bill Clinton, former Vice President Al Gore, and the Library of Congress.

Lisa is part of an ongoing multimedia symphony project produced by Music Unwound and the Kurt Weill Foundation which features the work of Kurt Weill, Berthold Brecht and Marc Blitzstein. Upcoming engagements include celebrations of Broadway and the music of George Gershwin.

Lisa lives in Pasadena, CA with husband Patrick O’Neil and their beautiful dog Barber.

Doug LaBrecque

Doug LaBrecque thrilled theatre audiences as The Phantom and Raoul in the Harold Prince production of The Phantom of the Opera. In addition, Mr. LaBrecque has starred on Broadway as Ravenal in the Hal Prince revival of ShowBoat, a role he also performed in Toronto and Chicago. He was featured in Oscar Hammerstein’s 100th Birthday Celebration Something Wonderful on Broadway at The Gershwin Theatre, and toured nationally with Les Miserables. Regionally, Mr. LaBrecque has performed leading
roles in Candide, A Chorus Line, and Man of LaMancha among many others. A graduate of University of Michigan he was also featured in the world premiere of A Wonderful Life, written by Sheldon Harnick and Joe Raposo, and starred in the premiere revival of Kurt Weill and Alan Jay Lerner’s Love Life.

One of the most prolific concert performers of his generation, Mr. LaBrecque has been a soloist with some of the world’s finest symphony orchestras including The National Symphony, The Israel Philharmonic (Tel Aviv), The Cleveland Orchestra, The San Francisco Symphony, The Detroit Symphony among many others. In the last few years, Mr. LaBrecque’s U.S. appearances have included The Fort Worth Symphony, Indianapolis Symphony, Houston Symphony, New Jersey Symphony, Dallas Symphony, and numerous engagements with The Minnesota Orchestra.

A frequent guest artist with Marvin Hamlisch, he appeared with Hamlisch at the Ravinia Festival with The Chicago Symphony and with the symphonies of Pittsburgh, San Diego, Baltimore, and numerous others.

In a tribute to Richard Rodgers, Mr. LaBrecque made his Carnegie Hall debut as a soloist with the New York Pops and during that same season he debuted with The Boston Pops. Alongside frequent collaborator Jeff Tyzik, he appeared with both the St. Louis and Seattle Symphony for their Holiday Celebrations as well as numerous performances with the Oregon Symphony, Toronto Symphony and Rochester Philharmonic. Other special engagements have included starring in Cole Porter’s Ambassador Revue with the Opera de Rennes in France, singing with Carole Bayer-Sager at Feinsteins’s in Manhattan and the Cinegrill in Los Angeles, performing alongside Broadway legend Jerry Herman with the Naples Philharmonic, and appearing onstage with Senators Ted Kennedy and Orrin Hatch (singing together!) at Hickory Hill, the legendary home of Ethel Kennedy.

International engagements have included The Korean National Symphony in Seoul, Korea, The Shanghai Radio Orchestra in China, The Hong Kong Philharmonic, The Brazilian Symphony Orchestra in Rio De Janeiro, The Jerusalem Symphony, The Moscow Philharmonic, The Malaysian Philharmonic, The Reutlingen Symphony in Germany and numerous return engagements with the
Israel Philharmonic and the International Music Festival in The Czech Republic. In 2011 he appeared alongside piano sensation Lang Lang in a concert with The Beijing Symphony broadcast on Chinese Television. In 2017 he sang with the BBC orchestra in Sunday Night is Music Night recorded live on the BBC and featuring the music of George Gershwin.

He has appeared in Alba, Italy as a guest soloist in a tribute to Leonard Bernstein. Mr. LaBrecque has sung the role of Tony in West Side Story (Grant Park Music Festival), Candide (West Virginia Symphony) and Maximillian in Candide (Michigan Opera Theatre and Dayton Opera) and appeared with Osmo Vanska and the Minnesota orchestra in a tribute to Mr. Bernstein.

Doug’s numerous recordings include Holiday at Peace, a live recording alongside Russian conductor Edvard Tchivzhel and The Greenville Symphony, Broadway Showstoppers, a live recording with Peter Nero and The Philly Pops, Play it Again, Marvin live with The Kalamazoo Symphony and Opening Doors a solo studio recording with The National Symphony of London on Jay Records. He appears on numerous Jay Record albums: I Believe My Heart, My Personal Property, Simply Musicals, A Little Bit in Love, and Showstoppers from Broadway.

As the Director of Broadway Pops Programming for Greenberg Artists, Doug maintains a busy schedule creating and co-producing original symphonic programs and directing numerous musicals in concert. Mr. LaBrecque is also the Artistic Director of the Oconee Performing Arts Society(OPAS), 80 miles east of Atlanta in Greensboro, GA.
